Rev. Michael Biggs -- 812/663-5683

Michael C. Biggs named New Albany church district superintendent

Bishop Woodie W. White, episcopal leader of the Indiana United Methodist Church, has appointed the Rev. Michael C. Biggs to serve as district superintendent for the churches of the New Albany District, effective July 1. Biggs currently serves as senior pastor of Greensburg United Methodist Church in east central Indiana. He will succeed the Rev. John Beatty who has held the position since 1999. Beatty will retire in June.

Rev. Biggs has served churches in Indiana for 27 years, previously having serving appointments in Ohio churches for three years. After graduating from United Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, he came to Indiana in 1976 when he was appointed associate pastor at the United Methodist Temple in Terre Haute. During succeeding years he served the following churches: Connersville Grace UMC, Evansville Epworth UMC, Noblesville Emmanuel UMC and most recently Greensburg UMC where he has pastored since 1997. He also served Midway UMC in the Evansville District before entering seminary.

When asked what he hopes to accomplish during his appointment, Biggs explained, "I intend to be a shepherd to the pastors and churches of the district."

The New Albany District of the United Methodist Church consists of 88 churches with a combined membership of approximately 11,500. It covers Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Washington and parts of Scott Counties in southeast Indiana.

Michael Biggs and his wife, Ruthie, have three children: Cindy Snider, Misti Biggs and Benjamin Biggs; and two grandchildren ages nine and four.
