Chalstrom appointed superintendent for churches of Warsaw District
The Rev. Marianne Chalstrom has been appointed district superintendent for the Warsaw District of the United Methodist Church. She will replace the Rev. Jacob Williams, now serving as interim superintendent. Williams will begin a new appointment June 16 as senior pastor at Trinity UMC in Lafayette.
Indiana Area Bishop Woodie W. White announced the appointments, which will take effect June 16. Currently Chalstrom is pastor of Riverside UMC, 1201 North Wheeling in Muncie, where she has served since 1994.
"I was nervous and excited at the same time," Chalstrom says of her new role. "My passion is to see churches and people renewed and be a part of that. I love the people at Riverside and hate to leave Muncie but I also look forward to this new challenge."
She started her ministry in 1975 when ordained in the Disciples of Christ Church in Kansas. There she worked on spiritual development projects and retreats as well as helping to start a new congregation. In 1985, she came to Indiana to serve pastorates at Ambia and Locust Grove UMCs in the Lafayette District. She transferred credentials, with full Conference membership and Elder status in 1987. Subsequently she was appointed associate pastor at Grace UMC in South Bend, 1987-90, and Porter UMC, 1990-92 before being named associate director for the North Indiana Conference (regional) Council on Ministries, 1992 to 1994.
Rev. Chalstrom is a graduate of Indiana University, with a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees. She received her Master's of Divinity from Phillips Graduate Seminary in Enid, Okla. in 1975. She and husband, Darrell, have one son, Wayne, 18.
The Warsaw District of the United Methodist Church includes 67 congregations with a combined total of approximately 9,800 members. The district covers parts of Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Noble, Pulaski and Whitley counties in northeast and north central Indiana.
