NOTHING BUT NETS EVENTS
BISHOPS INVITE CLERGY, LAY LEADERS TO NETS BREAKFAST JULY 24
On
behalf of The United Methodist Church and the United Nations Foundation’s
Nothing But Nets campaign – a global, grassroots campaign to prevent malaria –
Bishops Mike Coyner and Thomas Bickerton invite clergy and lay leaders of both
North Indiana and South Indiana Conferences to a breakfast discussion with faith
leaders from the ecumenical and interfaith community as we United Methodists
discern our emerging role in the fight against malaria.
During the week of July 21, Nothing But Nets will be in
Indianapolis as part of a multi-city, national grassroots initiative to engage
groups and individuals on the importance of malaria prevention. As a part of
this effort, Indiana United Methodist clergy and lay leaders are invited to join
Coyner and Bickerton in a complimentary breakfast and discussion on Thursday
morning, July 24 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. EDT
in Switzer Hall at the University of Indianapolis, 1400 East Hanna Avenue.

Indianapolis Community Leaders Unite
to Fight Malaria

The United Nations
Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, a global, grassroots initiative
to save lives by sending anti-malarial bed nets, will join Indianapolis
community leaders in co-hosting a series of events from July 23-24,
2008, as part of the campaign’s national effort to raise funds and
awareness to prevent malaria – a leading killer of children in Africa.
The United Nations Foundation, The People of the United Methodist
Church, The Women’s Basketball Association and other local partners will
work together to engage the Indianapolis community in the week’s events,
including a Nothing But Nets promotional night during a Jonas Brothers
concert, a Nothing But Nets Youth Workshop, a faith leaders’ breakfast,
and an in-arena night with the Indiana Fever. |

Nothing But
Nets, the Indiana Pacers, and Indiana Fever will co-host a community
event to engage local youth in malaria prevention efforts. The event
will feature health experts and campaign partners, including player
participation from the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever. This event will
aim to encourage youth and others to work within their communities to
help raise funds and awareness to prevent malaria by getting involved in
Nothing But Nets. |

Nets Promotional Night with the Jonas Brothers

During the
Jonas Brothers Concert, Nothing But Nets will reach out to attendees
about how they can join in the global effort to send nets and save
lives. At the venue, Nothing But Nets will educate fans about malaria
through a PSA promotion and information booth. This event aims to
encourage and empower young people to make a difference by getting
involved in charitable causes like Nothing But Nets. |

Nets Faith Leaders’ Event and Breakfast

Nothing But
Nets will gather with United Methodist leaders and community members to
discuss current issues and threats posed by malaria and to pray for
children and families who suffer from the disease. United Methodist
Bishop Thomas Bickerton will lead a discussion focusing on opportunities
for the local faith community to get involved in Nothing But Nets and
the fight against malaria. |

Nets In-Arena Event with the Indiana Fever

During their
home game against the Minnesota Lynx, the Indiana Fever will host a
Nothing But Nets in-arena night to bring players and fans together to
fight malaria. The night’s activities will include a Nothing But Nets
booth on the arena’s main concourse, a PSA promotion, and a Fever’s web
site feature. This is one of many in-arena events occurring as part of
the WNBA’s partnership with Nothing But Nets. |
