GOVERNOR HEADS TO KNOX COUNTY TO INSPECT FLOOD DAMAGE
Gov. Daniels will be in flood-damaged areas of southwest Indiana on this
morning (Howey Politics Indiana). At about 9:15 a.m., he was in the Knox
County town of Edwardsport to inspect the levee. He will travel to other
affected areas but those will be determined based on overnight developments. We
will keep you updated. Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman toured Elnora and Seymour on
Monday.
REPRESENTATIVE BUYER TOURS FLOOD AREAS
U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer continues to help assist counties with relief efforts
today after multiple storms swept through Indiana causing severe flooding on
June 6 (Howey Politics Indiana). Search and rescue efforts are still in
effect as many roads remain closed and people remain trapped within their homes.
Monday Congressman Buyer toured Johnson and Morgan counties, which were two of
the hardest hit from recent storms. Congressman Buyer discussed state and local
recovery efforts with local officials, including the Mayors of Franklin,
Greenwood and Martinsville and with local commissioners and county
council-members in Johnson and Morgan Counties as well as city council members.
In addition, he has spoken with the Sheriffs of the two counties and may local
citizens who have been affected. “I assessed flood damages with local officials
and asked a representative from FEMA to join me today. Flood victims are
challenged for basic necessities; they need food, water, shelter, medical needs
and even down to the bare essentials – toilet paper,” said Buyer

ASBURY UMC IN COLUMBUS PROVIDING FLOOD RELIEF
Asbury United Methodist Church at 1751 27th Street in Columbus is engaged in
relief efforts. Our church has served already as clothing site, an emergency
responder post, a collection site and we have many groups mobilized in helping
Columbus residents with the devastation of their homes. We will continue with
our efforts as long as there are needs. We are in for the "long haul." -- Al
Styron, senior pastor, Asbury UMC
JASONVILLE ARE IS WITHOUT WATER, UMC FEEDING WORKERS

CENTENARY UMC IN TERRE HAUTE CARING FOR SENIORS
Centenary UMC of Terre Haute has been visiting and checking on the residents
of Bethesda Gardens a local retirement/nursing home which was flooded and
evacuated on Terre Haute's south side.
Centenary has notified two churches who had flood problems and offered use of
its facility if necessary. Centenary also has contacted the Red Cross and
assisted at Terre Haute North High School where evacuated residents were first
taken to be kept safe from the flooding in their homes. – Paul Wagner,
pastor, Centenary UMC, Terre Haute
SPENCER UMC ASSISTING WITH RED CROSS
The Spencer UMC has been working very closely with the Red Cross center at
the elementary school. There have been many volunteers including doctors, nurses
and other skilled volunteers who do what is needed. The church’s food pantry and
mission store is open for food and clothing. Many folks have said they
appreciate having these services available to them. Spencer church is very
mission minded on a daily basis, therefore; it took minimum effort to begin
helping those in need.
The Spencer church also has offered its facilities to churches that have had
their buildings flooded. Many churches from other cities are calling to ask what
they can do to help. Keep us in your prayers. – Alvin McFadden, pastor,
Spencer UMC
CLOVERDALE PASTOR ASKS FOR PRAYERS
As the rain continues, and the water flows down from the north, it will just
get worse. Check Web sites, television stations, or state police before
traveling to the area. Even today some areas are being closed as water continues
to rise. Some people in the Cloverdale church will be blocked out of their homes
(or in) as roads flood and are closed in Putnam and Owen counties.
A family in the Cloverdale UMC owns property with a stream where a man
drowned on Saturday. Please keep them and his family in prayer. – Paul Fulp,
Cloverdale UMC
