In an emotional response with Indiana delegates standing with him, Dr. Frank Beard of the North Indiana Conference withdrew from the Episcopal elections at the North Central Jurisdictional Conference after the fifth ballot was announced.

Beard thanked the Indiana delegations for their support and for the support he received from the other delegates in the jurisdiction. He recounted his entry into the church through the ministry of Vacation Bible School when he was a child. He challenged all the delegates to "let their light shine." Seven candidates receiving more than 10 ballots announced on fifth ballot.
