UE announces strengthened commitment to International Baccalaureate
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (UE) - In response to the growing academic achievement of high school students, the University of Evansville recently announced a strengthened commitment to the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
After an intensive faculty review of the IB curriculum, the University has created a new, $1,000 scholarship for any student who graduates high school with an IB Diploma. This scholarship would be in addition to any other merit-based scholarships earned by the student.
Students who go through their high schools' IB programs and courses will bring additional college credit to UE, as the University also is increasing the number of those credits students can apply to their graduation requirements.
The IB curriculum encourages students to develop an international perspective through interdisciplinary learning and critical thinking assignments. In addition to the rigorous course of study, students in the IB Diploma program are required to engage in community service and complete individual research within a chosen subject area.
Since 1968, the IB Diploma program has been a choice of more than half a million students in 125 countries. In recent years, there has been a tremendous growth in students pursuing the curriculum.
Because of the work involved in an IB program, UE officials feel that students who pursue an IB education will mesh well at United Methodist-related University of Evansville.
