Letters to the Editor

Mississippi gives thanks to Hoosiers

Indiana has earned a well-deserved reputation in Mississippi as "Those Northerners Who Really Care" (my designation) for such heroic and sustained efforts for the Mississippi Gulf Coast victims of Hurricane Katrina.

At the Mississippi United Methodist Choctaw Mission there are additional opportunities for response from the "Caring Hoosiers." We have about 100 Choctaw children in foster care here on the reservation and we are initiating a new emphasis by providing a Christmas party and gift exchange for selected families, chosen by Choctaw Social Services.

These are children and families that otherwise might not have much of a Christmas celebration.

For more information please contact our Church and Community Worker, Deaconess Diane Wood (dianevwood@yahoo.com).

Jon Walters,
Mississippi United Methodist Choctaw Mission
Choctaw, Miss.
