Hardin to highlight UINDY faith conference

Father Boniface Hardin will be the guest speaker for the third annual Gathering of the African-American Sages, scheduled for March 26-27 at the University of Indianapolis.

The conference, sponsored by the university's Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Programs, brings together church and community leaders to explore African-American Christian spirituality.

Hardin is the founding president of Martin University and a member of St. Meinrad Archabbey. He will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, on "The Life of Higher Learning and Its Effect on our Future Civilization." His appearance will be preceded at 7:15 p.m. by a welcoming dance performance. At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, Hardin will deliver a dramatic performance titled "Frederick Douglass: Spirit Warrior," speaking in character as the noted abolitionist, author, orator and social reformer.

Free and open to the public, both appearances will take place in McCleary Chapel in the university's Schwitzer Student Center, 1400 E. Hanna Ave.

The annual Gathering of the African-American Sages is part of a collaboration among the University of Indianapolis, the Office of African-American Spiritual Formation of the Detroit Conference of The United Methodist Church, and the Upper Room Ministry in Nashville, Tenn. Funding is provided by the Phase III Vocations Project, a Lilly Endowment-funded program at the University of Indianapolis.
