Alumni Association recognizes individuals significant to UE

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville Alumni Association honored several individuals, following the University's celebration of its 153rd Founders Day on Feb. 11. Four awards were presented during the annual Alumni Association Awards luncheon, honoring a volunteer, a distinguished alumnus, honorary alumni and a young alumna.

Award recipients include:

Sue Hodapp '82 is this year's Edie Bates Volunteer Service Award recipient, honored for her work as an active alumni board member, past board president, trustee, and supporter of UE in her St. Louis community.

Holly (Collier) Marks '96 is recognized with the Distinguished Young Alumna Award for her active civic involvement in Indianapolis on behalf of UE and her work with the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation, a national organization that encourages high school students to become volunteers in their communities.

Stephen and Sally Jennings are this year's Samuel Orr Honorary Alumni Award recipients, for their ongoing dedication and contributions to UE and the Evansville community as a whole. Jennings began his tenure at UE as the 22nd president of the University of Evansville in 2001.

Distinguished Alumnus for 2007 is Major General R. Martin Umbarger '69, who is the commanding General of the Indiana Army and Air National Guard. Umbarger began his career as an enlisted soldier for the Indiana Army National Guard and moved up through the ranks. He has served as the adjutant general of Indiana, deputy commanding general of the United States Forces Command at Ft. McPherson, Assistant Division Commander, 38th infantry division, Indiana National Guard and Commanding General, 76th Infantry Brigade, Indiana National Guard.
