Petroleum United Methodist Church holds first service in new building

The Petroleum (Ind.) United Methodist Church held the first service in its new church building on Sunday, Oct. 8. The service began with a dedication of the building while keys were presented to the building committee and the trustees.

A fire that started in the sanctuary claimed the building in June, 2005. Construction then started on the new building in December. The building was framed, but then was blown down in a wind storm on Good Friday, 2006. Volunteers from the congregation and the community helped to clean-up the debris and the new framing began in June.

The congregation says they are grateful to Briner Builders, Inc. and individuals from the community who helped with clean-up, including Kent Monce, Don, Lynn, Vince, Rick, Curt, Lance and Todd Fiechter. A public dedication is being planned in the near future.
