Kids Hope USA to hold May 6 workshop at Marion Church

The North Indiana Conference will host a KIDS HOPE USA daylong workshop on Saturday, May 6, at the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 2971 West Kem Rd., in Marion, Ind.

With active mentoring ministries in 327 churches in 27 states in more than 30 denominations, including United Methodists, KIDS HOPE USA has identified several factors that are essential when a church is serious about engaging and involving neighborhood children and families.

Key to the program is the concept of one child mentored one hour in one church partnering with one school.

According to Virgil Gulker, Kids Hope founder and executive director, there are 63 Indiana congregations participating in the Kids Hope USA program. Of these, 14 are United Methodist. Every public elementary school in Grant, Vigo and Blackford counties are partnered with Kids Hope.

Gulker told Together, "This course will provide a tested step-by-step process to move small and large congregations from school-based relationships with children to church-based relationships with families. Come hear principals of schools share their stories of children and families mentored by people who care about their children."

For more information or to register, e-mail diane@nicumc.org or call 800-783-5138 ext. 13 for Diane Kelley. For more information about KIDS HOPE USA, log on to www.kidshopeusa.org.
