Indianapolis pastor offers new look at worship beyond traditionalINDIANAPOLIS - Linda McCoy, pastor of Saint Luke's United Methodist Church's Garden congregation offers an alternative approach to church designed for seekers not accustomed to traditional church in her new book Planting a Garden: Growing the Church Beyond Traditional Models by Abingdon Press. While conventional churchgoers might challenge some of the practices outlined within the covers of this book, the reader can discover the freedom in following God's lead into becoming a new church for new generations.
Planting a Garden offers church leaders insights into how to think outside the box and how to engage in a new way to be and do church. While many mainline churches appear to be falling short when it comes to reaching and transforming lives in today's culture, this is one model within mainline ranks having success. Here's a book for those serving in parish ministry who are hungry for ideas and resources that encourage new thinking, and which give permission to color outside the lines. Each chapter ends with a list of helpful questions to guide church leaders into considering new ways of approaching 21st century congregations. This book is a helpful tool of inspiration and encouragement to those who want to be faithful to God's call, but who are encountering frustration on a daily basis. McCoy believes that blessed with a richness of talent and energy, we feel that it is part of our mission to provide both inspiration and ministry resources (to the extent that we are able) to empower other congregations and to help them in providing such a ministry. It is not just a different way to "do" worship, but an entirely new way of being church.
