Hunger ministry invites individuals to Lenten devotions programLent is the season for Christians to engage in disciplines that sustain and refresh and give full expression to our faith. Lent and Easter call us to remember the mystery of our redemption in Christ and to more fully participate in his life-giving spirit. In keeping with these traditions of Lent, the Society of St. Andrew invites individuals and congregations to participate in a program of spiritual reflection, prayer and giving. Each participant or participating family is provided a devotional booklet of reflections and prayers. They are asked to share in the Society of St. Andrew's hunger ministries by making a personal Lenten sacrifice that will be used to feed hungry Americans. The theme for this year's Lent devotions is "Jesus, remember me." The reflections ask participants to think about those whom Jesus touched with healing and wholeness while they are also challenged to remember and respond to Jesus' commands to care for the poor and needy in the world. An optional "Good Friday Fast" is available to supplement the Lent Devotions or as a stand-alone program of spiritual renewal and giving. The Society of St. Andrew has complimentary, no obligation, sample starter kits available for review before placing a congregational order. Order your starter kit on-line at www.endhunger.org/lent.htm; by e-mail at church@endhunger.org; or call 800-333-4597. After reviewing the program, orders need to be placed by Jan. 24 to ensure delivery before Ash Wednesday, Feb. 9. All materials are free. The Society of St. Andrew (United Methodist Advance #801600) is a Christian national nonprofit hunger-relief ministry feeding the hungry through its Potato Project, Gleaning Network, Harvest of Hope and Hunger Relief Advocate Initiative programs.
