Historical Society to celebrate Franklin Community's first 50 years

The tenth annual meeting of the South Indiana Conference United Methodist Historical Society will celebrate the first half-century of the Franklin United Methodist Community in the homes Community Center on April 30 at 10 a.m.

The meeting will feature several speakers, including Marie E. White, a pioneer of the Franklin Community, who began her employment as a fund-raiser in 1953. White was the office staff for many years, doubling as secretary and bookkeeper. She retired from the Franklin Community in 1985 and became a resident of the community she helped build.

The second speaker will be the Rev. Joseph T. Trueblood, D. Min., executive director of Franklin Community and chair-elect of the Indiana Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

A business meeting will affirm the 2005-2006 officers. At 1:30 p.m., a tour of the Franklin Community facility will close the day's activities. Walking assistance will be provided for this tour. Nonmembers of Historical Society are especially welcome.

A $15 fee covers lunch and registration. For more information or registration, contact Jean Seville, 1324 Mill Lane, New Albany, IN 47510; telephone 812-945-0021.
