Bishop to ask youth about call to ministry at Feb. fest in Columbia City

Indiana Area Bishop Woodie W. White encourages the youth of Indiana to consider a call to Christian ministry.

To further youth's call to ministry, the North Indiana Conference Board of Ordained Ministry is sponsoring a major youth event on Sat., Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Columbia City United Methodist Church.

The "Bishop's Convocation on Youth and the Ministry" is for youth ages 12 to 21, who have experienced a call to Christian ministry or who wish to explore God's call to ministry.

"The calling of a new generation of competent, gifted, Christian leaders to serve the church is absolutely essential for the future work of the Kingdom," says the Rev. Mark Fenstermacher, pastor of Trinity UMC in Elkhart and member of the North Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.

The convocation is designed to answer the questions young people may have about full-time Christian ministry, said Fenstermacher.

The day will begin with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. During this time there will be music, Christian videos, refreshments and representatives from area Christian colleges and seminaries.

Lots of music and the preaching of the Rev. Frank Beard will kick off the day at 10 a.m. Youth will then have the option of learning more about different kinds of Christian ministry by attending two of many workshop offerings.

Workshops include: parish pastor (senior/associate), campus ministry, youth ministry, worship/music ministry, camping ministry, women in ministry, missions ministries and ethnics in ministry. Experienced, gifted pastors will lead these workshops. Lunch will be served between workshop sessions.

Bishop Woodie W. White will lead worship with Communion at the end of the day. He encourages pastors to accompany their youth to this important life-changing event.

Registration is $10 per participant. Scholarships are available. Registration deadline is Feb. 14. Youth may register by sending their name, address, city, ZIP and phone number with a $10 check payable to North Indiana Conference, Convocation on Youth in Ministry, P.O. Box 869, Marion, IN 46952 or by e-mailing the North Indiana Conference office at info@nicumc.org
