Seminary to host Deacon's Conference
EVANSTON, Ill. - Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary will host the annual meeting of The Ecumenical Network for the Diaconate on its campus Nov. 19.
This scholarly association exists as a forum for communication across denominations about the diaconate, a form of ministry with the poor and marginalized that extends the church beyond physical walls. The association includes deacons, diaconal ministers and deaconesses. The topic of conversation at this conference will be around methods of helping others develop into these diaconal roles for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
Keynote speaker John Willets will assist in that effort with his lecture "Deacon as Learner and Mentor for Today's Church." Since 1995, Willer has taught on the faculty of DePaul University in Chicago, where he continues his work in ministry development.
