Pat Weeks: North Indiana's connection to missions board

Hoosiers have a voice on the General Board of Global Ministries based in New York City through Patricia Weeks, a member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church in the Calumet District.

Weeks is one of the new directors of the GBGM but no stranger to general church boards. During the 2000-2004 quadrennium, she served as a member of the Women's Division, part of the GBGM. In United Methodist Women circles, she has served eight years on district teams, eight years on the North Indiana Conference Team as Christian Personhood Mission Coordinator and president, and in various local unit offices.

In other church involvements, she has served nine years on the board of the United Methodist Retirement Center, six years as a NIC trustee and is currently chairperson of that board, is a Certified Lay Speaker and has been a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences, the church's legislative bodies, five times each.

She also realizes her commitment to the church as a Stephen Ministries trainer, an Alpha leader, and is well acquainted with the Disciple Bible Study program.

She is married to the Rev. John E. Weeks, pastor of the DeMotte UMC. They have two grown children, a daughter Rebecca and a son John B. She has two grandchildren, Matthew, 12, Sarah, 9.

Professionally, she has been a high school business teacher but for the past 18 years has worked as a family services counselor with a funeral firm.
