In light of 9/11 what does "pray without ceasing" mean to you?

Rev. John Young
St. Matthew UMC
Anderson

"Pray without ceasing" takes on new meaning when we become more fully aware that our lives can end in a moment in time. The breath prayer (Recognizing God's love as one inhales and one's need for forgiveness as one exhales.) The breath prayer is a method that heightens awareness of God's presence with us and our answer to try to pray without ceasing.

Rev. Jean Wilson
St. Luke's UMC
Indianapolis

[It] means that we have to continue to pray because we don't know what may happen from day to day. God is a God who promises to hear our prayers, to answer them and to show us great and mighty things. Our consolation is we're serving a God who has all the power of the world in God's hand.

Rev. Heather Olson-Bunnell
Decatur St. Marks UMC
Decatur

Prayer can be "a continual dialogue with God," morning, noon and night. I am thankful for little day experiences. God gives me names of people for prayer as I commute. Don't take events and people for granted. I say thank you to those who have touched me.

Charone Savage
Pleasant Hill UMC
Macy

It means the same as always, to be in constant communication with God. Not just "Dear God" and "Amen." We can talk to God about anything, any time - all day long, all night long.

Glenn Perdue
Bethel UMC
Indianapolis

9/11 has brought home to us how important it is to pray without ceasing. Even those who haven't prayed know how much more may happen if we do not turn to God in prayer.
