Fowler Church gets new and improved home

This is the second fire in the Lafayette District in less than a year. Last October, Fowler UMC caught fire. This past June the church broke ground for a new building. The new church will be several blocks from the old one: at E. 12th St. just off of US 52. Reports say that dirt is now moving!

After cleaning it up, the congregation began meeting back in the church basement for regular worship. Pastor Peggy Good says, "Our focus now is on the new building and most of our meetings and gatherings are around [it]. People have pulled together and are working hard to make the church plans work as quickly as possible." The new expanded facility will be fully handicap-accessible and include more classrooms, a choir room, a youth room, atrium classrooms, a larger sanctuary, fellowship hall and kitchen, among many other pluses. The estimated cost will be $750,000.

Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. the congregation is having an auction of "pews, church things, personal things, a nice used automobile, and a whole bunch of other things," Good says, … "We are asking for donations both to the auction and the building fund, and we're also looking for skilled volunteer labor." To volunteer or donate, contact the church office at 765/884-1067 and leave a message. Matt Oates
