"Giving Something Extra"

There are lay persons who have answered God's call to go the extra distance in ministry -- putting their time and talent to work in the church. Kimberly Lucas (NIC) and Harry Lyness (SIC) are just two of the many parishioners who've answered that call. Their names were submitted by their respective Conference lay leaders (Jack Dwiggins and Jim Shaw) for "Giving Something Extra" in God's service to mankind.

Kimberly Lucas …

Kimberly Lucas (no picture on file) joined Epworth UMC (Michiana Dist.) and quickly became active in the Creation Care Ministry which places homeless animals in foster homes. As an animal care officer in South Bend for more than 21 years, she brought experience and insight to the ministry. She helps with advertising and fundraising to support the program. Lucas credits the Rev. Steven Breii for this outreach ministry of Epworth UMC. In addition, Kimberly is a Sunday morning nursery volunteer. The person naming Lucas as someone Giving Something Extra tells us "her time, talents, devotion and enthusiasm are a true witness to the presence of God's love in her life."

Thank you, Kimberly Lucas, for Giving Something Extra!

Harry Lyness …

Harry J. Lyness, Dearborn Hills, UMC, Lawrenceburg (Columbus Dist.), has made more than 15 mission trips to Gonaives, Haiti, to "plant seeds in the lives of children so that when a new Haiti emerges, Christians will be ready to lead the country." Through a memorial fund in the name of his late wife, Donna, and the late Harry C. Lyness, the Happy Lady Orphanage was built to provide for 20 girls, orphaned or abandoned. Dearborn Hills UMC continues to provide financial aid to the orphanage and to the boys' facility. "Mission work provides an opportunity to communicate in love through the universal language of God's melody," says Lyness. He is a newly certified lay speaker and active in his local church as well as in the mission to Haiti.

Thank you, Harry J. Lyness, for Giving Something Extra!
