YAC: Prayer for the multitude

By Kristin Coffin
Hoosier UM News Youth Correspondent

What if one person prayed for three people, then those three people prayed for three more; eventually, everyone would experience the power of prayer. Themed "Pray It Forward," based on the premise of the movie Pay It Forward, the senior high youth of the South Indiana Conference met the weekend of Feb. 16-17 in Indianapolis for their Youth Annual Conference (YAC).

The weekend at the Adam's Mark Hotel kicked off with the opening session where Tim Price and the Harvest Ministry Team played. They have been with Jr. and Sr. High YAC for a long time; they never fail to do a wonderful job.

This year's youth workshops included: "Radical Discipleship," "Go Fish," "911 Emergency! How Do I Pray?," "Helping Friends," "Taming Your Tunes" and of course YAC Choir. The adult workshops included: "Dealing with Youth in Crisis," "Youth On Different Spiritual Levels," "Do You Know What Your Youth Are Listening To?" and "Mission Possible." There were also workshops for both youth and adults: "Youth Group Evangelism," "Secrets of the Vine; Why, God?" and "Don't Check Your Brains at the Door."

During the afternoon session, Josh Weidmann was introduced. He was an amazing speaker; he's only 19, which puts him very close to the age of most of the youth in attendance. Josh had a very charismatic way about him that earned a standing ovation by the end of the weekend.

Following the afternoon session, everyone had the choice of either staying for further seminars or going on an evangelism outreach experience. Michelle Pattison worked very hard on gathering 2,000 CDs from recordings. Youth hit the streets passing out the CDs to the folks of Indianapolis. It was a fun experience and it seemed to work well.

During the night's worship, youth had the opportunity to recommit their life to Christ. Tim and his band also rocked the house for a while. Later, everyone took a breather and headed to either the dance or the YAC Café.

Sunday morning started with the district Bible studies, followed by worship service and Holy Communion, where the YAC Choir showed off their talents. Hope everyone had fun this weekend, or at least enough to last them until next year!
