Hoosier VIM team to Haiti:
sharing the hope of heaven
This last trip to the Grande Anse River Valley on the western end of Haiti in
January was the 31st for Dr. Doyle and Carolyn Ellis, South Indiana VIM
(Volunteer in Mission) coordinators. The Vincennes couple have brought their
dental skills, medical supplies, medicines, fellow VIM workers and friendship
each year to the people of this poverty stricken tropical area where basic
health needs most often go unmet.
Dental care is a luxury few can afford, which is why the Methodist Clinic at
the village of Gebeau is so important. Through the annual work of the Ellises
and many others, the clinic now has some good, basic equipment; however, there
is not enough money to hire a dentist to staff it. They hope funding can be
raised to hire a Christian Haitian dentist at $600 to $700 per month. According
to the Ellises, the Methodist Church of Haiti can budget for continuing his
employment thereafter. To make a donation for this need, contact the Ellises
(see below).
Next year's VIM trip to Haiti is set for Jan 3-14. The team will complete the
church/school/community center building at the village of Cheroque and also
begin another church building project in the area. To arrange for a mission
speaker on Haiti or to sign up for the next work team, contact the Ellises at
