Hoosier United Methodists are hungry for e-HUM

In February, Indiana United Methodists witnessed the unveiling of e-HUM, the electronic "e-mail" edition of the Hoosier UM News. The new ministry of Indiana Area Communications has surpassed initial projections.

"Subscriptions for the free service are beyond what we had ever expected," said Matt Carlisle, editor of e-HUM. "We expected to see a gradual increase in subscriptions, but have been stunned to see huge daily jumps."

According to Lynne DeMichele, director of Indiana Area Communications, "The demand for e-HUM sends a strong message that people are hungry for the convenience and immediacy of electronic news."

The demand for electronic news has spawned the expansion of e-HUM. In March, the e-HUM Bulletin Insert will be available for download from the e-HUM website: www.inareaumc.org/e-hum.htm . "We at the Area Communications amusingly refer to the bulletin insert as 'news for the pews,'" says Carlisle. The black and white download will be available each month for churches to include in their Sunday bulletin or to distribute as a handout. The 5.5" X 8.5" finish size should fit most bulletins.

Carlisle explained that free e-HUM advertisements and Web graphics for newsletters are available for Indiana UM organizations and churches to download from the site as well.

If you haven't signed up for e-HUM yet, simply send a blank e-mail from your preferred e-mail account to add@inareaumc.org .
