----- Youth Briefs -----
August. 24 with Bishop White Our CCYAM (Conference Council on Young Adult
Ministries) theme this year is "The Race is On!" It comes from Hebrews. We're
working toward getting churches together to do networking (to see what each
other is doing in the way of Young Adult Ministries. We hope that with
networking churches within the North Indiana Conference we'll be learning and
growing together in this specialized area. We can do it if we work together.

Keith Thews, CCYAM Chairman
Six Indiana high school seniors were awarded the University of Indianapolis'
United Methodist Youth Leadership Scholarship, a $3,000 scholarship initiated by
the Lantz Center for Christian Vocations. Dr. Perry Kea, chair of the Philosophy
and Religion Department, and Dr. Greg Clapper, director of the Lantz Center for
Christian Vocations, announce the recipients of the six scholarships: Lindsey
Long, Greenwood, Honey Creek UMC; Heather Foltz, Dyer, Dyer UMC; Jamie Evans,
Decatur, St. Mark's UMC; Alyssa McLean, Plainfield, Mooresville First UMC;
Allison Pozeznik, Middlebury, First UMC of Middlebury; and Sarah Ranck, Muncie,
Fountain Square UMC.
These students submitted personal statements about their religious
convictions, their leadership involvement and what that leadership has taught
them, and ways they hope to involve themselves in Christian activities and
leadership while at the University of Indianapolis.
The initial funds for these scholarships were made possible by a grant from
the Lilly Foundation.
More than 300 youth and young adults from the Midwest and then some braved
cool temperatures to celebrate their faith with music.
Seismos '02, a one-day music festival open to everyone, happened at Pine
Creek Camp on May 19. The crowd heard music from Christian artists Dead to Self,
Hangnail, Embodyment, Joy Williams, Rock and Roll Worship Circus, Polarboy and
Switchfoot.
"The main goal of Seismos is to provide a variety of Christian artists that
appeal to a variety of music tastes," said Patric Newton, one of the organizers
at Pine Creek Camp. "It is also our goal to introduce to people some great bands
that maybe they have never heard of, and to show that Christian music with
acceptable messages exists in the genres that they enjoy."
Oakwood Academy, Syracuse, Ind., is now accepting 2003 reservations to attend
next summer's camp sessions. A new mentoring program will be offered, and the
age group for the Servant Leadership program will be expanded to include 12- and
13-year olds. Sessions are scheduled for June, July and August of 2003. For more

the world will gather in Knoxville, TN from July 23-27, 2003.
