Three-way church merger thriving after decadeTen years ago three very small congregations came together to form Community Church in Vincennes. They were Trinity, North and Wabash UMC's. Now the new "whole" is greater than the sum of its original parts. In the ten years of its existence, CUMC has blossomed into a congregation of around 450, with an average worship attendance of 390. And according to Associate Pastor Ken Hill, the congregation is involved in over 130 ministries. They include a migrant workers food pantry, mission work teams to Haiti, Habitat for Humanity house building, a pre-school ministry, lay shepherding, camp scholarships, a homebound ministry, Disciple Bible Study 1,2 & 3, a regular Family Night program and many others. Our vision statement is "to make devoted disciples for Jesus Christ in mission and ministry to the world," says Hill. Community Church sits on a 30-acre plot, across from Vincennes Lincoln High School. About 20 acres of this property is still actively farmed. Last month was wheat harvest time, and income from the yearly harvest goes to help support the church's many ministries. Senior Pastor at Community is the Rev. Andrew Kinsey.
