Bishops' reflections on Sept. 11
A study guide initiated by the United Methodist Council of Bishops is
available to help local congregations deal with hard questions in the aftermath
of Sept. 11.
The 12-page book, Be Not Anxious: A Guide for Study from the Council of
Bishops, contains personal reflections by bishops, as well as suggested
Scripture readings and questions for discussion and reflection. The United
Methodist Board of Discipleship produced the guide at the bishops' request.
The study sections cover key topics that have emerged since the terrorist
attacks on America: anxiety and comfort; suspicion and hatred; the war on
terrorism; lasting changes in American life; asking the questions of life; and
Christians and patriotism.
The optional cassette contains expanded comments from the bishops taped
during the council's fall meeting, and the cassette was developed with
production support from United Methodist Communications.
The book can be downloaded from the board's Web site at
www.gbod.org
. The book and cassette can also be ordered together or separately by calling
800/972-0433. Copies of the study guide and tape are available at no charge
while supplies last.

Faith in the face of suffering
"Good Lord, Deliver Us: The Praise of God and the Problem of Evil," a new book

Presbyterians, Lutherans, Episcopalians and Roman Catholics to discover how
Christians grapple with their faith in God in the face of evil and suffering.

corporate worship:
In this time of national grief and suffering, "Good Lord, Deliver Us," from OSL
Publications, offers a well-grounded, theological approach to the problem of
evil. A resource for pastors, chaplains and Sunday school classes, "Good Lord,
Deliver Us" weaves stories and reflections into a garment of hope and faith.
