How do you promote peace in your church
family and community?
Rev. Daniel Berger
First UMC
South Bend
|
We promote peace in our liturgy and sermons
as we proclaim that the will of God is for people to live in peace. In
tangible ways, this church works for peace through our justice programs,
Upper Room Ministry, food pantry, Scout programs and our soup kitchen
which has served half-a-million meals.

Rev. Lynn Renne
Aldersgate UMC
Evansville
|
In designing worship, I try to provide a chance for people to
experience a time apart: a time to focus on something greater than self,
a time to sense God's presence and love, a time with space for silence,
sacred and Holy moments, a time to journey toward Shalom in one's soul.
|
Rev. Pam Montgomery
St. Mark's UMC
Carmel
|
First, I learn all I can about people who are not the same as I.
Second, I teach and preach what I think to be true and I encourage and
invite others to share what they know. It is most important to teach
respect for others so that we will not merely tolerate others, but
engage them.
|
Rev. Mark Fisher
Southport UMC
Indianapolis
|
To promote peace, this church finds needs in our community and then
strives to meet them. As people's lives are changed through the power of
Christ, peace becomes a possibility, both individually and corporately.
|
Rev. Jacob Williams, Jr.
Trinity UMC
Lafayette
|
The obvious answer is to talk about peace in my sermons. I sign all
my letters with Shalom (peace) I verbalize my thoughts on peace through
my interactions with the faith community.
