2. Jim and Julie Doepken, Girdwood, at the tip of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet about 40 miles south east of Anchorage.

None were affected by the 7.9 earthquake Nov. 3.

BETH FERRELL

It was especially nice to receive Beth Ferrell's newsletter, Ferrell's Herald. She arrived in Sierra Leone about a year ago. After a three-week delay in Freetown, which turned out to be a very positive experience, she arrived at her new home in Box, -- 160 miles southwest of Freetown. Beth's duties in the areas of health are too many to list here. However if you want to receive her news info between issues of Ferrell's Herald, send her an e-mail at: bjagfsl@sierratel.sl

JIM DWYER,

our missionary pastor of the international congregation in Munich Germany (called Peace Church), wrote a touching pastoral letter in his September newsletter. He described conflicts, specifically in the international setting between conscientiously serving one's country and one's faith. The letter was beautifully written and soul searching as he described his heart-felt thoughts. For more details, he can be reached at Jim@PeaceChurch.de  or Peace Church -- United Methodist, Frauenlobstrasse 5, D-80337 Munich, Germany

JIM DOEPKEN,

Girdwood Alaska missionary, was one of several who spoke at the North Conference-sponsored Board of Global Ministries WOW (Winning Our World for Christ) missionary event at Epworth Forest Sept. 21. Designed to inform lay persons and ministers about United Methodist missions, it was an outstanding educational and inspirational experience. Not to be outstaged by other missionaries clad in their country's representative dress, Jim exhibited his Alaskan wardrobe -- and stressed the amount of it! -- by slowly putting on several sweaters before he began his presentation. Painstakingly he added a fur-lined parka, boots and heavy mittens, explaining what it is like to cope with Alaskan winters.

Girdwood Chapel, in the process of establishing a congregation, has a buyer for the 1/8 acre of land it now sits on, but can't close on the 2.65 acres they had planned to move to this fall because of some wetlands issues. This has pushed their move to spring, but they still plan on building in 2004 and will be needing work groups at that time.

CHUCK and SUE ELLINWOOD

will lead Volunteer in Mission teams to Bolivia May 16-31, 2003. Sue will lead a construction team to Rio Colorado where Jack and Flora Warner, Warsaw, Ind., were missionaries. The current missionaries are a young couple from Lansing, Mich. The church will lead a Medical and Eye Clinic team to an area near LaPaz. Physicians and nurses are needed. The cost will be $1,800. If you want an application or more information, you may contact Chuck and Sue at 231/264-8469; or email: chiela@aol.com

BISHOP NTAMBO,

Democratic Republic of the Congo, was the subject of a feature article in the Nov. 1 issue of United Methodist Reporter. He is becoming as well known and loved in many other areas as he is in Indiana, where a few years ago he endeared himself to the hearts of Indiana United Methodists. According to the Rev. Glen Beck, South Conference Director, Mission Interpretation, Bishop Ntambo will be itinerating in Indiana January through March. For booking, contact Rev. Mike Beck 317/736-7962; or Glen Beck, 60 W. Methodist Dr., Franklin, Ind. 46131; 317/736-1562.
