Jr. High Youth gather, explore nature of God

Junior high students from all over the southern half of Indiana came to Junior High Youth Annual Conference 2002 (YAC) to worship together and to search for an answer to the question, and this year's theme, "Who is the Great I AM?" God answers this question in Exodus 3:14a, I AM who I AM."

Dana Slater found who/what God is to some of the attendees. Among the extensive list of responses were, "holy," "faithful," "merciful," "graceful" and "Father." A workshop was dedicated to answering this question more thoroughly. Other workshops included "Taming Your Tunes", and a corresponding adult workshop titled "Do You Know What Your Kids Are Listening To?", "Helping Friends," and "Lean On Me."

Other events were presented to get "in touch with God." The Harvest Team Ministry led the 695 junior high YACers in worship with fun and powerful music.

After everyone's hearts were focused, the energetic Jay Lafoon, a nationally known youth speaker, shared his message through personal experiences and relative examples. Lafoon extended an invitation to everyone to say a prayer with him accepting Jesus and asking for forgiveness. A large number of people responded and stayed after to talk with their counselors. It was a moving and life-changing experience even as a witness to the sight of so many being brought to Christ. Later a festival and dance were held to allow the YACers to mingle and spend time talking with new friends. A live band played.

Before every YAC, each chair is prayed over by a team of Conference Board of Youth Ministry members (this year all rooms were prayed over due to availability of space). I would like to ask that all of you reading this continue to pray for those who attended that they all continue to seek God's Will. Lindsay Achgill, CBYM Communicating Secretary
