He is risen!

Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.

And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:18-20 NRSV

Oakwood Passion Play celebrates over 100 performances

In 1992 the annual Passion Play premiered at UM-related Oakwood Inn and Conference Center in northern Indiana. Last month marked the 10th anniversary for this extraordinary drama/worship experience.

With over 100 performances to date, the production was written and produced by Bob Whitesel, who has -- along with extensive theatre experience -- a doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary. Authenticity was a priority in writing the play, he said. The words "Jesus" speaks are taken directly from the New Testament and delivered in modern English.

Each year up to 3,000 attend these productions, all of which involve interaction with the audience. Computerized lighting and special effects enhance the impact of this sharing of the story of the last week of Jesus' life -- his holy "passion."

Members and clergy from 42 area churches participated in the nine Lenten and Holy Week performances.
