eChurch.Now:

3 workshops coming up

The eChurch. Now workshops will deliver practical communications tools in a byte-size format. Coming in September, the South Indiana Communications Commission will host two workshops for local churches covering three of the "hottest topics" in communications today.

Understanding your audience -- One of the important roles of communications in every local church is to understand the audience you are trying to reach. Learn the needs of Baby Boomers, Postmoderns and Generation Y. Take part in a hands-on activity to discover your audience and their needs. Explore communication vehicles to reach your audiences. Learn processes for researching your audiences, and how your communications committee can be organized to help. A church that is responding to actual needs of their audience, is a church vital and growing in mission and ministry.

Is your web site ready for a change? -- Is your church Web site meeting your goals, or do you have goals? What is the mission of the site or is it mission-less? Who is your audience or are you trying to find an audience? To whom are you marketing and promoting the site? Are you asking yourself, "Is this worth the time I put into it?" You'll also have an opportunity to talk with others about similar issues. This workshop is for churches that already have a web site but want to enhance it.

Your church newsletter and other print material -- You spend hours of time and lots of energy producing each issue of your newsletter. We'll talk about how to design a newsletter that's easy to read and that people will look forward to receiving. We'll talk about content that can make the newsletter and other print materials a tool for extending and expanding the ministry of your church. There will be ideas for gathering the information you want and need to include. We'll also talk briefly about posting your newsletter on a Web site. Bring your stories of success and frustration to share; be sure to bring copies of your newsletter for display.

UM Communications' Conference Resource Team (CRT) from Nashville, Tenn., will present the same three courses at two workshops. The first workshop will be on Sat., Sept. 22 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Centenary UMC (14340 Old State Rd.) in Evansville.

The following day, Sept. 23, the workshop will be presented at Southport UMC (1947 E. Southport Rd.) in Indianapolis.

Churches can now register for the eChurch. Now workshops. The cost will be $25 per church for unlimited participants. To learn more, contact Bert Talbott at 317/848-8928. The registration deadline is Sept. 7. Matthew Carlisle
