SIC tracking inclusivity
At the 2001 South Annual Conference session, the
following trends and recommendations were noted by volunteer monitors from the
Commission on the Status and Role of Women and the Conference Commission on
Religion and Race:
-
White male clergy dominated conference
proceedings.
-
Among the laity, men spoke three times as often
as women (noted during the Building Task Force Report).
-
We urge the Committee on Annual Conference
Session to offer education on the Consent Calendar process as part of
pre-Conference briefings.
-
We urge the Committee on Annual Conference
Session to review their manner of assigning officers to legislative
sessions. All six secretaries assigned were women.
-
We urge each Conference board and agency to
strive for greater representation of racial ethnic minorities and women on
their governing boards. Margaret Mayo
